Former England spinner Graeme Swann has made a big prediction about India’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi ahead of the five-match T20 series starting in Durham from July 1. After missing the chance on the Ireland tour, fans are now hoping that the young batting sensation finally gets his long-awaited India debut on the England tour.
After suffering an embarrassing 0-2 T20I series whitewash at the hands of Ireland, the Men in Blue are also under pressure in the five-match T20I series. Since the entire lineup failed, many called for Vaibhav’s selection in the India XI for the T20I series in England. However, Daryl Cullinan fears that early fame could derail Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s career.
Graeme Swann predicts big trouble for Vaibhav Suryavanshi for England
Graeme Swann has warned the England national cricket team that Vaibhav Suryavanshi could become one of the toughest batsmen for the hosts if he gets a chance to make his much-awaited debut in the upcoming T20I series. But Suryansh Shedge reveals Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s biggest strength.
Even though the left-handed batsman has not played international cricket yet, Swann said it is not easy to plan against a dangerous player like Vaibhav. The former spinner acknowledged the fact that England have videos of his batting, but feels that watching videos alone will not be of much help as very few bowlers have been able to trouble Vaibhav during IPL 2026.
“It is difficult to prepare for a player like Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He is still new to international cricket, but he has already played two IPL seasons. That means there is video footage available. Some of the England bowlers might have bowled to him in the IPL. But the truth is that no one has had much success against him so far. He looks almost unstoppable,” Swann said on Geostar.
Graeme Swann picks Jofra Archer as England’s best hope against Vaibhav
The former England spinner believes that only one England bowler has a slight advantage over the rest and that is Jofra Archer. Since both were part of the Rajasthan Royals setup in the IPL, Archer has watched Vaibhav closely and bowled to him in the practice nets, so he understands his game better than other England bowlers and can give him a tough time.
“One bowler who may have a slight advantage is Jofra Archer. He has watched Suryavanshi from the dugout, bowled to him in the nets and watched him up close. He has probably watched him more than anyone else,” Swann said.
Sarandeep Singh demands Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut in India
Meanwhile, former India selector Sarandeep Singh has backed Vaibhav to make his debut for India in the first T20I against England in Durham on Wednesday. The teenage batting sensation did not get a single match in Ireland, so he now deserves a chance in the playing eleven.
PTI quoted Sarandeep as saying, “He should have played (against Ireland). The team management will have to look at how to accommodate him in the playing XI. Sometimes tough decisions have to be taken. Rest some senior players and they may get a chance. If you are building a team for the future, a rotation policy should be in place. Then you have to sit some players out and give them a chance.”
