The 2026 Indian Premier League ended a few days ago, but Vaibhav Suryavanshi fever remains relevant as a topic of discussion among cricket fans across the country. At just 15 years of age, the way the Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman performed from start to finish seemed unreal.
Suryavanshi was the winner of the IPL 2026 season due to scoring the most runs in the season. Along with the Orange Cap, the young talented player also won a few other individual awards in the campaign. Former England spinner Graeme Swann says that players born in Bihar are special talents.
Graeme Swann explains why he gave Vaibhav Suryavanshi such a high rating
Graeme Swann told news agency PTI that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a special talent, and he would not like to bowl against him as he has seen how the southpaw toyed with some world-class bowlers during the IPL 2026 season.
Swann observed that the young batsman performed without any fear in the middle, which makes him more dangerous. The former spinner also mentioned that till now, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has not tasted any failure, which could be one of the reasons behind his fearless approach.
He has a special talent: Swann
“Yes, he is a special talent. As I said earlier, I wouldn’t want to bowl to him. If I was playing, I wouldn’t want to bowl to him. He is at that age where he is completely fearless because he hasn’t had failure,” says the former England cricketer.
The report further suggests that the bowlers came up with various plans including lethal yorkers to prevent the batsmen from scoring runs freely. But most of the strategies did not work and the batsman kept scoring runs freely.
“However, after doing well earlier in the under-19s and getting big raps, going into the IPL and people said, you know, after he got a few starts and then you remember people bowling yorkers and saying, ‘Oh, we’ve got him. You can’t do that again and again against world-class bowlers. But as the IPL went on, he got better and better. Those couple of 90s in the playoffs, they were ridiculous. I was one of them. Swann said, “It was the most adventurous innings of a 15-year-old kid in Chandigarh.”
776 runs in 16 matches for Suryavanshi
Vaibhav Suryavanshi finished the IPL 2026 season as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, scoring 776 runs in 16 matches at an extraordinary strike rate of 237.31. His IPL 2026 season was decorated with 1 century and 5 half-centuries, with a highest score of 103 runs off just 37 balls. During the campaign, the teenage prodigy broke Chris Gayle’s record of most sixes in a single IPL campaign by hitting 72 sixes.
After an exceptional IPL 2026 season, the national team selection committee named the batsman in the T20I squad for the upcoming tour in the United Kingdom and the 2026 Asian Games. Vaibhav Suryavanshi could debut in Team India at the age of just 15.
