A big and emotional moment came at the Kennington Oval in London during the ongoing second Test between the England national cricket team and the New Zealand national cricket team on June 17, when Glenn Phillips finally scored his maiden Test century.
Coming into this Test after a double shock, New Zealand had already suffered a crushing 115-run defeat in the first Test against England at Lord’s and then following the retirement of Kane Williamson, the touring team made a spectacular comeback at the Kennington Oval. Amid Test series, ECB wants inquiry into Ben Stokes-Gus Atkinson nightclub incident.
Glenn Phillips scored his first Test century despite Jofra Archer’s fast short balls.
Despite a poor start, New Zealand managed to score 391 runs on the board and major credit for this goes to Glenn Phillips. He made two 80+ run partnerships with Tom Blundell and Daryl Mitchell to lead the Kiwis to a huge score in the ongoing second Test against England.
Phillips was finally rewarded for his hard work on the second day at Kennington Oval. Jofra Archer bowled a back-of-the-length delivery, and Phillips guided it gently to the off-side for a single, and with that run, the New Zealander completed his well-deserved century in Test cricket.
After reaching this milestone, Phillips took off his helmet and celebrated with a smile. It was a special feeling for him, not only because it was his first Test century, but also because of how he survived Archer’s lethal bouncers during the ongoing second Test at the Kennington Oval.
Phillips was forced to wear sunglasses to face Jofra Archer’s powerful spell. The New Zealand all-rounder had suffered several head and shoulder injuries before achieving the special feat and putting his side in a strong position against England in the ongoing second Test. His crucial innings earned respect and praise from fans on social media.
Here is how fans reacted to Glenn Phillips’ crucial innings:

Glenn Phillips’ courageous century ends in disappointment
However, after reaching this point, Glenn Phillips lost his wicket while playing an aggressive shot. Matthew Fisher bowled a short and fast ball and Phillips hit a pull shot. But he could not time it properly and hit the ball straight to deep midwicket, where Emilio Gay took a brilliant catch.
During his brilliant innings against England, Phillips returned to the pavilion after scoring 100 runs with the help of 18 fours in 135 balls. As he walked off the field, the New Zealand dressing room stood up and gave him a standing ovation for his solid and determined innings.
