South Africa faces New Zealand in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Kiwi team has not won a single match against the Proteas in the Men’s T20 World Cup. South Africa have a 4–0 record against the Black Caps since the inaugural edition in 2007.
Mitchell won the toss and elected to field first, making just one change from his team; Jimmy Neesham returned to the team in place of Ish Sodhi. A unique sight was seen during the match when Glenn Phillips dropped the catch.
Glenn Phillips dismisses David Miller
During 9.1 overs of the match, Rachin Ravindra bowled the ball to David Miller as the latter misjudged the shot and it went high in the air and Glenn Phillips dropped the crucial catch while running towards long-on from the deep extra cover area.

What are you waiting for? Glenn Phillips dropped a catch . If it had not been captured on camera, no one would have believed it.

However, Phillips must have been relieved as Miller was out on the last ball of the same over, giving a simple catch to Daryl Mitchell at long-on for six runs. Talking about the match, after being invited to bat first, the Proteas team was in deep trouble and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Glenn Phillips can make mistakes too
Glenn Phillips has been one of the best fielders in world cricket at present. He takes catches from impossible angles and stuns the batsman and fans with his fielding efforts. He is shining like lightning in the field with his catching and fielding abilities. This moment proved that even the normally innocent Phillips could get an off day in the field.
However, New Zealand did not have a good day in terms of taking catches, as Rachin Ravindra had Aiden Markram setter first. But ultimately, the South African captain was dismissed by the Kiwi all-rounder, with Darley Mitchell taking a catch that initially looked controversial but was given out.
Catching has been difficult at the Eden Gardens, as when India faced West Indies last Sunday, there were three catches dropped between the two teams, two of which were sitters, and there were even misfields. So it has been a difficult ground to field on.
South Africa has recovered well from the defeat
The Proteas were struggling with the score at 77/5 when Tristan Stubbs and Marco Johnson put on a 73-run partnership for the sixth wicket. The former was out on the score of 29 runs in 24 balls. However, Jensen completed his half-century by hitting Lockie Ferguson for back-to-back sixes.
The South African national team set a target of 169/8 in the allotted 20 overs. They will be very happy with this score because at one time they were almost struggling and even a score of 130 seemed impossible. But Jensen’s crucial 55* off 30 balls helped the team cross the 150-run mark.
