In a massive shock to Australia, veteran all -rounder Glenn Maxwell has been dropped from the upcoming three -match T20I series against New Zealand due to a fragmented right wrist. Maxwell was hit by Mitchell Owen on the cell from a direct drive while bowling. The 36 -year -old is also uncertain for the next month’s five -match T20I series against India at home. He recently showed Australia his form in an unbeaten half -century to lead South Africa for the T20I series victory.

“We are training under a marquee, so it is really echoing and loud. I saw (Owen) smoked it and then later-hit the maxi on this wrist. It didn’t look good,” Short told about the Cricket.com.

“(Owen) is not the man you want to bowl in T20 training, it is sure. Maxi is there and has now gone through two times (serious injuries) – he was a little disappointed, but it’s like any other injury. I am sure he will get through it,” he said.

Josh Philip nominated for the New Zealand T20I series as an injury replacement

Scan has confirmed that Glenn Maxwell has fractured his wrist. Cricket Australia chose 28-year-old wicketkeeper-son Josh Philip as his replacement.

Philip last played a T20I against India in 2023 and was earlier ignored when Josh Englandis was sidelined with a calf injury.

The 28-year-old, recently impressive, has been in the first informal trial during the Australia A tour, scoring 87-gent 112, after a score of 39 and 50 in the second game.

Philip has struggled in T20IS, a strike rate of 150 runs out of 12 matches at an average of 12.50 and a strike rate of 109.48. His inclusion in playing XI will depend on the team combinations.

Australia’s updated T20i squad for the New Zealand series: Michelle Marsh (C), Scene Abbott, Xavier Bartlet, Alex Kerry, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Matt Kuhnemannman, Michel Owen, Josh Philip, Matthew Short, Marakas Stinice, Edam Zampis.

Glenn Maxwell returns to Australia for expert consultation after wrist fracture

Glenn Maxwell has returned to Australia to consult a specialist, who will determine his recovery timeline after fracturing his wrist. The 36 -year -old faced the race against India to fit for a five -match T20I series.

According to the schedule, the series will begin in Canberra on 29 October, with later matches in Melbourne, Hobart, Gold Coast and Brisbane. Based on expert advice, Maxwell may not be ready until the beginning of the Big Bash League.

The playing XI in Australia may include Marcus Stoinis. Stoinis, who has not shown in the T20 Eye setup since November last year, is expected to slot the middle order with power hitter Michel Owen and Tim David.
