Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed his combined ODI XI which includes a group of players from India, Australia and England. However, the 37-year-old ruthlessly removed the English giants from his list.
The India vs Australia series is scheduled to begin this coming Sunday, with both the teams playing a 3-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20 series. Veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will miss the first two T20I matches, but is likely to return in the third T20I.
Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of participation after suffering a wrist injury while bowling in the nets. With his return date still uncertain, the all-rounder will be hoping to feature in the series against the India national cricket team.
David Warner was sidelined as Glenn Maxwell chose the Indian pair as his opening pair.
Veteran Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell recently appeared in an exclusive interview on Fox Cricket, where he was asked to choose a combined XI consisting of players from Australia, India and England. This comes ahead of the India vs Australia series starting on October 19.
For the opening slot, Maxwell was provided with the names of opening batsmen from all three countries, namely Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Sachin Tendulkar, Jonny Bairstow and Mark Waugh.
Not considering his former teammate David Warner for the opening spot, he chose two Indian legends, Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma as openers for his team. After this he chose the middle order batsmen.
Shane Watson was chosen as an all-rounder, bypassing the greats of the game
In the list of middle-order batsmen, he was asked to choose from a wide group of players comprising legends from each country. Virat Kohli was the only Indian batsman named, and Maxwell chose former RCB teammate as the No. 3 batsman.
Apart from this, several middle-order players like Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Michael Bevan were named. Maxwell named two Australian greats for the remaining two places in the combined XI, while Joe Root was once again sidelined.
Maxwell’s most surprising choice was in former Australian teammate Shane Watson. He sidelined stalwarts like Yuvraj Singh, Andrew Symonds, Steve Waugh, Andrew Flintoff, Ben Stokes and Kapil Dev in favor of Watson as an all-rounder. Additionally, Maxi chose MS Dhoni as the team’s wicketkeeper, replacing Australian great Adam Gilchrist.
No England player is named in Glenn Maxwell’s combined eleven
He dropped Australian legend and world’s greatest spinner Shane Warne from the team and replaced him with India’s great Anil Kumble as the spinner. The three fast bowlers included the famous Australian pair of Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath.
While Jasprit Bumrah was selected for the United XI, they once again overlooked English legend James Anderson. Maxwell made his eleven but did not select any England players, with only Indian and Australian players named in the squad.
