Australia has made several changes to its T20 squad for the upcoming five-match series against India.

Both the teams are currently playing a three-match ODI series which will conclude on Saturday (October 25).

Glenn Maxwell returns for India T20I

Glenn Maxwell’s return highlights the changes in the team. The senior all-rounder will return to face India after suffering a wrist fracture. Maxwell will join the T20 team for the last three matches of the series. He was ruled out of the first two matches after suffering a wrist fracture while bowling in the nets in New Zealand late last month.

20-year-old Mahali Beardman has also been a surprise inclusion in the Australian squad for the last three T20Is. Although Beardman has not played any match in international cricket yet, he has been included in the senior Australian team before. His inclusion as an injury replacement on England’s 2024 white-ball tour was a surprise.

The former Australia Under-19 fast bowler has had a great start to his T20 and List A career for Perth Scorchers and Western Australia. He has taken 3 wickets in 2 T20s and 15 wickets in 5 List A games.

Australia’s updated ODI and T20 squads

Along with Maxwell and Beardman, Ben Dwarshuis has also returned to the T20 team. The left-arm fast bowler was ruled out of the ongoing ODI series and the first three T20Is due to a calf injury, but has been included in the squad for the last two T20Is in Queensland.

Australia has also included Josh Philippe in the T20 squad for the entire series. He played the first ODI of the current series before making way for the return of Alex Carey.

Australia has included New South Wales all-rounder Jack Edwards in the team for the ODI series. He has received his first international call-up for the last remaining match of the ongoing series.

On the other hand, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott will be released to play in the Sheffield Shield as they are all set to play against England in the upcoming Ashes.

Labuschagne has been released from the ODI squad ahead of the third match in Sydney in preparation for Queensland’s clash with NSW. Hazlewood and Abbott will miss the last three and two T20 matches respectively
