Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Glenn Maxwell has withdrawn from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction, which is scheduled to be held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. The veteran all-rounder released an official statement and revealed why he did not enter his name in the much-awaited auction.
The 37-year-old player had a poor performance for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025. He scored only 48 runs in six innings with a strike rate under 100, and took four wickets before his season was cut short due to a broken finger. The experienced player was not included in the retention list announced by the franchise last month.

A report by Cricbuzz has revealed that 1,355 cricketers have put forward their names for the upcoming IPL auction, which includes 1,062 Indian and 293 foreign players. The ten franchises together can select only 77 players, including 31 overseas players. Each team is allowed a maximum squad size of 25.
A look at Glenn Maxwell’s IPL numbers
Glenn Maxwell made his IPL debut with Delhi Capitals in 2012. He played for several teams including Mumbai Indians (MI), Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The all-rounder has played 141 matches and scored 2,819 runs at a strike rate above 155, which included 18 half-centuries. The off-spinner has also taken 41 wickets in the tournament.
After winning the 2013 title with Mumbai, he enjoyed a strong spell with Punjab. RCB secured him a huge deal worth ₹14.25 crore in 2021. He produced an extraordinary season, scoring 513 runs. However, they may struggle to justify their price tag in 2024.
This all-rounder could score only 52 runs in nine innings. After his poor performance, RCB released him. Punjab Kings signed him during the mega auction last year.
