The Australian T20 International team is set to get a big injection of star power and experience with the return of the all-rounder glen maxwell For the last three matches of the five-match series against India. His inclusion, announced on Friday, is a significant boost for the home team as they look to win the series while also managing the players’ workload ahead of next month’s highly anticipated Ashes series.
After recovering from injury, Glenn Maxwell has been included in Australia’s T20 team.
Maxwell has been officially declared fit after recovering from a wrist fracture he suffered while bowling in the nets ahead of the last T20 series in New Zealand. Maxwell, known for his explosive batting and excellent off-spin, is now set to join the team for the important matches starting in Canberra from October 29. His ability to single-handedly change the course of a match provides Australia with much-needed firepower in the middle order. The move is a deliberate strategy by the team management to strengthen the squad, while also ensuring that their key players are battle-ready for the long red-ball season ahead.
Australia made strategic exit to prepare for the Ashes
To maintain balance and prioritize red-ball fitness, Australia are making planned, strategic changes to the team. Experienced fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will be released after the second match and all-rounder Sean Abbott will leave after the third T20 match. Both players will focus their attention solely on red-ball preparations for the upcoming Ashes series.
Apart from Maxwell, the squad sees the arrival of left-arm fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis (for Games 4 and 5), and uncapped 20-year-old quick, Mahali Beardman (for Games 3-5), who is being considered for a possible debut. Wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe, who served as Maxwell’s injury replacement in the previous New Zealand series, also retained his place.

Maxwell’s major T20I record against India
Maxwell’s return is especially relevant considering his illustrious history against the Indian team. In 22 T20I matches against India since 2012, the explosive batsman has scored 574 runs at an impressive average of 31.89 and a blistering strike rate of 152.25.
His last appearance in the bilateral series against India demonstrated his match-winning ability when he scored an unbeaten century in Guwahati in 2023. His familiarity and dominance with the Indian bowling attack will be a key factor in the last three T20I matches.
