It was reported that the BCCI had informed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli that they need to be relevant in the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, if they want to expand their ODI career beyond the tour of Australia, and due to this rule, the pair would leave ODI cricket after the Australia series.
But now it is being told that India A match is a priority and not Vijay Hazare Trophy because according to PTI, participation in domestic competition is difficult due to overlapping international program.
BCCI officials said Rohit and Kohli could play the match against the upcoming 50 overs India A Australia A on 30 September, 3 October, and 5 Australia to get ready for the series Down Under.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s return to cricket is delayed
Rohit and Kohli retired from T20I cricket after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 and tested cricket before the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, making themselves available as single-form players.
He was expected to return to international cricket for the first time after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 during a tour of Bangladesh, but was postponed.
Later, some reports claimed that BCCI and SLC could organize Sri Lanka’s visit to India, including three T20I and three Odis, but it did not go further.
Now, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are all set to make their comeback in the upcoming ODI series against Australia, which will be played on 19, 23 and 25 October.
For the preparation of matches, a section in the BCCI wants the pair to play against Australia A at home. Talking about the status of Vijay Hazare Trophy, the report claimed that Kohli and Rohit may not be mandatory for convenience in the tournament.
The reason for this is that the Vijay Hazare Trophy will begin on December 24, and before that, he would have played every three ODIs against Australia and South Africa, and will be in line against New Zealand in January to play three more.
Even more important is whether Ajit Agkar and his colleagues want – Ajit Agkar
The source of the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that the final decision about the ODI future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, as well as his participation in Bharat -A or Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, is in the hands of the chief selector, Ajit Agrakar.
“Even though he plays the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he already used to play six flora already. Between Australia and South Africa’s ODI series, there is a series against South Africa A with a series with three list A games (50 overs) in Rajkot on 13 November, 16 and 19,” A source of BCCI described the PTI on the condition of a nang.
He said, “Now, the question is whether the two want to play the three games before the South Africa series, or possibly two, even more important whether Ajit Aggar and his colleagues want so.”
“There are three ODIs between over -wide India and New Zealand (January 11, 14, 18) with Vijay Hazare Trophy (December 24, 2025 – 18 January, 2026). So even though he plays Vijay Hazare Trophy, it may not be for more than two to three games.”
