Former Team India Batter Robin Uthappa shared his views on the 15-member squad for the upcoming 2025 Asia Cup and said that Harshit Rana was the weakest selection. Uthappa also chose several bowlers from rival Asian teams, who were strong enough to earn a place in India’s lineup ahead of Rana.
Eight teams including India, Pakistan, Oman, UAE, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong will compete in the Asia Cup 2025, which will start from 9 September. India is placed in Group A along with UAE, Pakistan and Oman. He will open his campaign against UAE in Dubai on 10 September.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Robin Uthappa said that Harshit Rana and Shivam Dubey are the weakest links in the Indian squad. He chose players from other participating teams, who could strengthen India’s 15 -member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

However, the former batsman dismissed as a viable option to include players from Pakistan and allies. Uthappa chose Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazlak Farooqui from Afghanistan as a possible replacement for Harshit Rana.
The cricketer-bed-expert chose Taskin Ahmed from Bangladesh and Mathesh Pathirana from Sri Lanka, which could be considered ahead of joy in the squad. He said that Sri Lankan’s Chamika Karunratne and Afghanistan’s Karim Janaat Hardik Pandya can serve as a backup option.
Harshit Rana joins India’s Asia Cup Squad Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh
Harshit Rana is among the three experts in Squad along with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. In particular, Mohammad Siraj was released from the squad.
Harshit has played only one T20I for India so far. He made his debut for Shivam Dubey for Shivam Dubey in the fourth T20I against England in Pune in January 2025. He rejected Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethel and Jamie Overton and recorded 3-33 figures.
Rana made his IPL career in 2022 with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He has taken 40 wickets in 34 matches on an average of 25.72, with a strike rate of 16.2 and an average of 9.51 economy 25.72 Pesar recorded his 3-24 best performance against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024.

Team India looks like to break the tie with Sri Lanka in T20 Asia Cup
India is preparing for the Asia Cup 2025 under Suryakumar Yadav. He had a great campaign in 2022 when the tournament was last played in the T20I format. In Blue, men last picked up the T20 Asia Cup Trophy in the inaugural edition of 2015-16.

Team India will include Pakistan, Oman and UAE as well as Group A in the upcoming tournament. India will play their first match against UAE in Dubai on 10 September. The event will follow a group phase, super for phase and finals to be played on 28 September.
