In a surprise twist after India’s 2-1 ODI series win over South Africa, former Indian batsman Robin Uthappa raised eyebrows by making an interesting comment about head coach Gautam Gambhir.

India won the ODI series on the back of incredible efforts from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, yet Gambhir did not mention any of the senior stars in the post-match press conference.

Kohli performed brilliantly in the three-match ODI series and scored 302 runs, which included two consecutive centuries and an unbeaten 65 in the final game. The former Indian captain’s consistency made him the top performer and earned him the Player of the Series award.

Rohit, on the other hand, was also in top form, scoring 146 runs with two important half-centuries, which helped India control the pressure and post a strong score in the ODI series against the Proteas team on home soil.

Despite their huge contributions to India’s series win, Gambhir highlighted the performances of neither Kohli nor Rohit in the post-match presentation in Visakhapatnam.

Gautam Gambhir ignored Roko’s contribution, felt strange and odd: Robin Uthappa

Uthappa found it strange that such a huge contribution was ignored by the Indian head coach. Cricket pundit has said that both Rohit and Kohli played such innings, which took India out of the pressure situation and played an important role in winning the ODI series.

“I found it surprising after the South Africa ODI series; in the press conference, I didn’t see Gautam Gambhir giving credit to Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli, which felt strange,” Robin Uthappa said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

There are some guys here who have batted to their full potential and shown us how good they are and how good they can be. He reduced all doubts and eliminated any doubt about what he can actually do and what he will do for India when he is in the right form. It felt strange.”

Gautam Gambhir remains silent on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future as ICC World Cup 2027 discussion heats up

After India’s ODI series win over South Africa last week, Gautam Gambhir refused to give a clear answer when asked about the roles of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the ICC World Cup 2027. Even Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar remained silent on his chances of playing in the mega event.

The head coach stressed that the tournament is still two years away and the focus must remain on the present. Gambhir made it clear that as India progresses, the contributions of both the players will be important in the 50-over format. Both are saying that things will become clear only when the time comes.

Gambhir said, “First of all you have to realize that the ODI World Cup is two years away. It is important to stay present. They are world-class players, and their experience in the dressing room is important. They have been doing this for a long time. Hopefully, they can continue to do that, which will be important in the 50-over format.”

Notably, both Virat and Rohit are likely to return for their respective Delhi and Mumbai teams in the Vijay Hazare Trophy ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand on home soil in January.
