In a fiery encounter at the picturesque Bellerive Oval, India achieved a thrilling victory by five wickets AustraliaAfter the dismissal of one opener and an Australian win in the second game, the five-match T20I series was level.
Tim David and Marcus Stoinis lead Australia to a competitive score
India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to field in the hope of taking advantage of early seam movement and the increasing threat of dew, with the Indian bowlers quickly justifying the decision. The Australian top order collapsed before a disciplined attack from the pace and mystery spin duo. Travis Head (4 off 6) and captain Mitchell Marsh (11 off 14) were out cheaply, followed by Josh Inglis (1 off 7), leaving Australia in a precarious position in the powerplay.
The innings faltered at 30 runs for 3 wickets, but the arrival of tim david And Marcus Stoinis launched a brilliant counter-attack. The two stalwarts stitched a game-changing, fast-paced partnership that not only saved the innings but also took the total towards a set target. David, in particular, was brilliant, displaying raw power and aggression to score 74 off just 38 balls, which included eight fours and five sky-scraping sixes. Stoinis provided the perfect foil for his crucial 64 off 39 balls, anchoring and attacking in equal measure.
Despite the late wickets of Stoinis and David, sharp cameos from last man of the match, Arshdeep Singh, Matthew Short (26 off 15) ensured Australia reached Competitive total of 186 runs for 6 wickets,
India’s bowling was a mixture of talent and expense. Arshdeep Singh was the star, taking 3 for 35, including crucial breakthroughs in the death overs. Varun Chakravarthy took 2 for 33, while the economical Jasprit Bumrah limited the flow, conceding only 26 runs from his four overs.
India’s chase: Sundar Storm
Chasing 187 on a fast Hobart pitch, India’s top order set the pace. Openers Abhishek Sharma (25 off 16) and Shubman Gill (15 off 12) provided a quick launchpad, but it was the fireworks from Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 11) that really put Australia on the backfoot, keeping the run rate above 10.
However, the Australian bowlers, led by a consistent Nathan Ellis (3/36), managed to push India back with timely wickets, and prevented any of the batsmen from reaching big scores. Tilak Verma (29 off 26) played the required anchoring role, but the game hung in the balance as the tempo needed to increase in the middle overs.
The decisive moment came with Washington Sundar coming to the crease. Showing exceptional clean hitting and maturity under pressure, Sundar launched an incredible attack, scoring an unbeaten 49 off just 23 balls with the help of three fours and 4 sixes. Effectively supporting Jitesh Sharma’s explosive innings of 22 not out off 13 balls, Sundar’s sensational effort took the fight away from the Australian team. Both of them ensured a tension-free finish by achieving the target of 188 runs with nine balls remaining in the 19th over.
