Team India celebrated head coach Gautam Gambhir’s 44th birthday with a 2-0 Test series win over West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 14. After the win, Gambhir transferred the much-talked about ‘Prince’ tag from Shubman Gill to one of the greats in Indian cricket.

Gambhir represented India in 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is. The left-handed opening batsman scored over 9,000 international runs, including nine Test and eleven ODI centuries. He played match-winning innings in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup finals, helping the team clinch both ICC titles.

Yuvraj Singh extended warm wishes on social media, praising his impressive contribution to Indian cricket and said that Gambhir is now even more serious as a coach.

Thanks A Ton Prince – Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir’s reaction to Yuvraj Singh’s birthday wish instantly caught the attention of fans online. Gambhir called Yuvraj “Prince”, a popular tag once associated with Shubman Gill, which drew various reactions on social media.

Gambhir replied, “Thank you so much Prince! .”

Shubman Gill achieved his first Test series win as captain as India thrashed West Indies 2–0, winning the second match in Delhi by seven wickets.

Gill led from the front with an unbeaten century in the first innings, his highest Test score on Indian soil. The young batsman will head to Australia for the ODI series, which will be his first assignment as India’s limited-overs captain.

Gautam Gambhir’s next big challenge awaits in Australia

Gautam Gambhir will face his next challenge as India head coach after the West Indies series, with very little time left for a change. The team will tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20 matches, starting from October 19. Notably, this series will also mark the first appointment of Shubman Gill as India’s ODI captain.

Under Gambhir’s guidance, India have excelled in white-ball cricket, having already won the Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy. However, the upcoming tour is expected to be a tough test given Australia’s home advantage and challenging conditions.

Ever since Gambhir took charge, India have maintained an impressive record, winning nine out of 12 ODIs and 20 out of 22 T20Is, reflecting the team’s strong form and consistency across all formats.
