The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former Team India all-rounder Sairaj Bahutule as the new spin bowling coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. This development comes days before India’s bilateral series against Afghanistan.

BCCI has given information about the new appointment on May 2. Known as the Starwalt of Indian domestic cricket, Bahutule represented the national cricket team in two Tests and eight ODIs. In first-class cricket, the former cricketer scored 6176 runs and took 630 wickets in five matches.

“It is a huge honor to be appointed as the spin bowling coach of the Indian men’s cricket team,” Sairaj Bahutule was quoted as saying in the BCCI’s official press release.

He said, “It was a matter of great pride to represent India as a player, and the opportunity to contribute to Indian cricket once again in a coaching capacity is extremely special. I look forward to working with the players and helping the team to achieve excellence across all formats.”

BCCI called him a domestic legend

The 53-year-old has gained a reputation for honing spin bowling talents over the years. He has been actively working in the Indian cricket field for years and has been gaining experience in both domestic and franchise cricket.

According to the official press release, “A former India international and domestic legend, Mr. Bahutule brings with him a wealth of experience as both a player and coach. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation for nurturing and developing spin-bowling talent in domestic and franchise cricket.”

Sairaj Bahutule’s appointment comes at a crucial moment when Team India is preparing to make its comeback in international cricket. The Men in Blue will be back in action in a one-off Test against the Afghanistan cricket team in Mullanpur on June 6. After the match in Whites, both these teams also have to play a three-match ODI series.
