The BCCI Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has named a 16 -member team for the five -match series against Australia, with some changes of the Asia Cup 2025 winning team. Suryakumar Yadav, who is undergoing a lean patch, has been maintained as captain for the upcoming series.
Young all -rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has returned to the place of Hardik Pandya, who has been sidelined due to the injury to quadriseps. Washington Sundar has also recalled the T20I setup. Sundar and Reddy are currently part of India’s Test Squad for the Home Series against the West Indies.
Suryakumar Yadav prepared to lead India’s T20I squad in Australia
Despite not being part of the ODI team for the upcoming Australia tour, Jasprit Bumrah has been included in India’s T20I squad. Shreyas Iyer once again missed the selection, while Shubman Gill retained his role as Vice-Captain for T20I.
The upcoming series is India’s first T20I assignment that is after its ninth Asia Cup Triumph and serves as a significant preparation before the 2026 T20 World Cup.
India last faced Australia in the T20I during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where men won 24 runs in Gros Islet in Blue. The Men in Blue last played a bilateral T20I series on Indian soil in the end of 2023, in which the domestic team won 4–1.
India finally visited Australia for a three-match T20C series at the end of the 2020 season and emerged victorious 2–1 in the competition.
Suryakumar Yadav’s form has been pathetic in T20Is
Suryakumar Yadav did mixed outing during the Asia Cup 2025. The batsman stumbled with the bat and impressed with his leadership. He managed just one run with five balls at the summit against Pakistan.
Yadav scored only 72 runs out of six innings at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 101.40. His remarkable performance came on a group stage against Pakistan, where he remained unbeaten on 47 runs from 37 delivery.
Overall, Suryakumar has scored 2,670 runs in 90 T20 matches at an average of 37.08 and a strike rate of 164.20, including 21 half -centuries and four centuries.
India has been prominent in the smallest format under its captaincy. In Blue, men have won all six bilateral T20I series, suffering only three defeats against Zimbabwe, South Africa and England. They will expect to continue their form on the upcoming Australia tour.
