Gautam Gambhir has got a big relief in an ongoing case related to Artificial Intelligence. It was observed that some popular posts on the social media platform, which have millions of views, featured commercial use of the voice, image and name of the former cricketer, who is now the head coach of Team India, without his consent.
The video, which used Gautam Gambhir’s image, voice and name, also spread false claims and news using AI and deepfakes. Amid growing concerns, Gambhir approached the Delhi High Court on Personality Rights. On Wednesday, March 25, there was news that the High Court has given protection to the personality rights of Gautam Gambhir.
Millions of views on social media posts using Gautam Gambhir’s identity
Some fake videos claimed that he has left the job of head coach of Team India, which proved to be absolutely wrong as the coach is doing a vital job in guiding the team to win the T20 World Cup 2026. If things go as per the original plans, Gambhir will remain on the hot seat during the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, which will be held in 2027.
Gautam Gambhir mentioned in his petition, “My identity – my name, my face, my voice – has been weaponized by unknown accounts to spread misinformation and generate revenue at my expense.”
He further said, “This is not a matter of personal injury; this is a matter of law, dignity and the safety of every public figure in the age of artificial intelligence.”
The number of manipulated videos has increased since the end of 2025
According to media reports, such manipulation of social media posts using Gambhir’s identity has increased rapidly on Instagram, X, YouTube and Facebook since late 2025.
In an order, the Delhi High Court directed that all misleading posts on social media and internet platforms be removed. The Delhi High Court has also ordered Meta, Google and Amazon to remove the objectionable URLs.
Gambhir’s case has been filed against 16 defendants, including Sanchit
According to a report by Bar & Bench, “Gambhir’s suit has been filed against 16 defendants, including identified social media accounts (Genke Frames, Bhupendra Pentola, Legends Revolution, Gustakhedits, Cricket_Memer45, JamesOfCrickets, Cricath, Sunny Upadhyay, @imRavY_).”

Under the coaching of the former opening batsman, the Men in Blue suffered several humiliating defeats in the longer formats of the game, including a whitewash in Tests at home. The defeat sparked anger across social media platforms, resulting in countless posts. Some of them took the opportunity to increase views on their social media posts by using Gambhir’s identity.
