Did Gautam Gambhir attack Virat Kohli after winning T20 World Cup 2026? The question arose when the head coach went against personal milestones. While interacting with the media, he discussed how the team has evolved to remain at the top in T20 Internationals.
After the India vs New Zealand T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad, Team India coach Gautam Gambhir told how the team has changed in the last one and a half years.
Gautam Gambhir told who will be given priority in the team
In the press conference, Gautam Gambhir said that it is all about aggressive intent, on the basis of which the team was successful in scoring more than 250 runs in pressure situations. For him, the Twenty20 format is all about scoring runs as quickly as possible.
Gambhir told that if a batsman takes 4 balls to reach from 96 to 100, then for him it means reducing the team’s 20 runs. On individual brilliance, the former Indian opener talked about performing only for the betterment of the team.
“If you are trying to win the World Cup, you can reach 250, 250, 300, 300 runs. And as I answered earlier, if you take 4 counts from 96 to 100, you lose 20 runs for your team. (0:20) And that is the difference between winning and losing the World Cup”, the Team India head coach said in the press conference.
“If you are batting at 96 and trying to hit a six on the next ball, if you get out of it, it doesn’t matter. But if you take 4 singles in the next 4 counts, you can never reach 250, 250, 300, 300. That’s why you would have seen in the last 1.5 to 2 years in this format, that I don’t remember anyone taking a single at 96. Or 97”, he added to strengthen his explanation.
Gambhir explained the team’s philosophy
Gautam Gambhir explained the philosophy that led the team to win their third T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The former cricketer clearly said that if someone wants to hit a six in four balls on the very next ball, he will be allowed to do so.
“Because the simple philosophy was that if you feel you can hit a six or a four on the next ball, then go for it. Because ultimately, in that dressing room, your 97 or 98 will be appreciated as much as your 100. And it will not just be through words, but it will also be through our actions,” the head coach told the media after winning the summit clash of the T20 World Cup 2026.
He added, “There are a lot of things that people say, but as long as you have action.”
