Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has excluded the selectors and Indian cricket team management under the chairmanship of head coach Gautam Gambhir for not encouraging out-of-form players and youth to play warm-up matches in England after the Lord’s Test.

The Indian cricket team is currently lagging behind 1-2 in the five-match Test series after the 22-run defeat in the third Test against England at Lord’s. Apart from Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, no batsman has shown fire in the ongoing test series so far.

Gavaskar felt that players like Jaywal and Nair, who have not yet found their rhythm, could use this difference to achieve some time in between and to re -achieve their mojo. Others like Sai Sudarshan and Abhimanyu Ishvaran must have benefited.

People will only worry a little more due to no match practice: Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar has reported that senior players can use such brakes to rest and recharge, but young or out-of-form players should have used this window to work on their game and to be suited to challenging foreign conditions.

The legendary cricketer said that the practice match, even against low opposition, can help players to re -achieve the form and confidence in Manchester.

Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for mid-day: “No match practice will be made only those who have not worried well, who do not make them in good position. This eight-day gap before Manchester Test, Yashsvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Syndon, and still will still be the most useful for some useful batting.

The famous broadcaster felt that players like Kuldeep Yadav, who could be selected for the fifth and final test, should have played a practice match or participated in a simulation game.

Gavaskar signed, saying, “For bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Prasad Krishna, it helps to achieve their run-ups, lines, and lengths.
