Pakistan is all set to boycott the match against India (India vs Pakistan) on February 15 for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The Pakistan government on Sunday suggested the Pakistan cricket team to abandon the high-octane match. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet issued a formal letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the government’s directive.
According to the latest reports, the PCB has not yet sent a formal letter to the ICC, although the ICC has already warned that a boycott could lead to a series of punishments that will ultimately harm Pakistan cricket.
Why did Pakistan government ask PCB to boycott India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 match?
This whole situation happened due to the strict stance of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as they refused to travel to India to play the T20 World Cup 2026.
The BCB requested the council to shift their matches from India to Sri Lanka as they had security concerns regarding their players in India. The ICC accepted Bangladesh’s request and gave the board a 24-hour ultimatum. In response, BCB officials remained firm on their position. ICC named Scotland instead of Bangladesh.
After Bangladesh cricket team’s defeat from T20 World Cup 2026, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said that they are thinking about all possibilities including boycotting the entire tournament. Days after a meeting between Naqvi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government asked the cricket board to abandon the match against India as a show of protest and solidarity with Bangladesh.
