Harbhajan Singh has given a harsh reality to his former Indian teammates Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar – who currently serve as the head coach and chief selector respectively – and has shut down the debate about the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
As questions and speculations are rising over whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will remain till the ICC World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Harbhajan has criticized those who have not achieved much for trying to decide the future of two modern greats.

The former spinner said that it is sad to see that players who are still performing at the highest level are evaluated by people who have not achieved much in the game of cricket. Harbhajan also recalled how he and many of his teammates were treated similarly during their careers.

Harbhajan Singh, while commentating in the ongoing ILT20, was quoted by Times of India as saying, “I feel very happy when I see a player like Virat Kohli who is still going strong. It is a bit unfortunate that people are deciding about their future who have not achieved much. I have been a player myself. I have seen this happening with me and many of my teammates. It is very unfortunate. We don’t talk about it or discuss it.”
37-year-old Virat Kohli has scored two brilliant centuries in the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa, proving once again that he still has the fire to make a splash at the international level. On the other hand, 38-year-old Rohit has scored two fifties and a blistering unbeaten 121 runs in just four innings, which shows that he is still far from being in ODI cricket.

And Harbhajan feels that these performances are enough to put to rest any doubts about his place in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2027. The former World Cup winner believes that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not only survived in international cricket but are also moving forward and inspiring the next generation to aim higher.
He told that his preparation, hunger and mental strength are unmatched even today. The commentator even predicted that both Kohli and Rohit will walk into the ICC World Cup 2027 as leaders, role models and benchmarks for Indian cricket. He praised them for keeping the standards sky high and showing what it really takes to stay at the top for so long.
Harbhajan further added, “They are getting very, very strong. Not just getting stronger, but setting examples for the younger generation… what it takes to be a champion.”

Harbhajan Singh urges BCCI to stop producing rank turners
Apart from this, Harbhajan also gave a strong message about India’s Test pitches. India recently suffered a 0-2 Test series defeat against South Africa at home, following which he urged the BCCI to stop producing rank turners at home as it is hurting both batsmen and bowlers.
The cricket pundit believes that India needs a balanced track where young batsmen can develop and good spinners can re-emerge as the team’s Test performance continues to decline.
He concluded by saying, “It’s time we started playing on good tracks in India, it’s that simple.”
