Former Pakistani cricketer wished for rain during India vs Pakistan match

India and Pakistan are set to face each other for another exciting match in the T20 World Cup. The India vs Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match is scheduled to take place on February 15 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Before the match, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali expressed a shocking wish. He wished for rain during the match.

There was a lot of drama before the match. Pakistan also threatened to boycott the match before taking a U-turn. Ali may not be happy with the decision of the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take the opposite path.

Clouds of uncertainty were looming over the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 match.

The tussle between the PCB and the International Cricket Council (ICC) lasted for several weeks. Even after the start of the tournament, there was uncertainty regarding this much-awaited match. Pakistan called for a boycott of the India match in solidarity with Bangladesh. This was more a political stance than cricket related reasons, as Pakistan had nothing to do with the ICC and Bangladesh standoff.

The ICC pulled the Bangladesh cricket team out of major tournaments after they refused to travel to India citing ‘safety and security concerns’. The ICC gave an ultimatum to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to reconsider its stand. But BCB officials remained firm on their stand. The result was that ICC expelled him from the tournament.

Following the expulsion of the Bangladesh cricket team, PCB chief and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi threatened to boycott their match with India, which was followed by an official announcement from the government.

Former Pakistan cricket players want to see rain during the match

Through a social media post, the Pakistan government confirmed that Pakistan will play in the T20 World Cup 2026 but will not take the field against India in Colombo on February 15. To resolve the matter, the ICC held a meeting with the PCB in the presence of representatives of Bangladesh and Malaysia Cricket Board. At the end of the conversation, PCB told that they are ready to take the field against India.

Basit Ali might not be happy with PCB’s decision to play the match, as he wants to see heavy rain during the match. Speaking to A-Sports, he said, “My prayer is that may Allah make it rain.”
