Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer threw his support behind the young left-handed batsman and said that the Indian team management has already shown confidence in Sai Sudarshan by promising him an extended chance in the Test team.
The former opener pointed out that Sudarshan has justified that confidence with encouraging performances in the recent series and deserves more opportunities to establish himself in the middle order.
“As far as Sai is concerned, all the selectors and even the captain have said that they want to give him longer responsibility. He has performed well in the recent series as well, so I believe he deserves that opportunity. He is a good player, a solid player, and he is only going to improve. He is the kind of character who will keep getting better. I think the No. 3 spot suits him.” Jafar said.
Jaffer also highlighted that India’s top order looks settled, with captain Gill enjoying success at the No. 4 position. According to him, there is little need to experiment with the batting order when the current combination has shown promise.
“Shubman is batting at No. 4 and batting really well, so I don’t think there will be any changes in the top four spots any time soon.” He added.
Sudarshan has consistently emerged as one of India’s most talented batting prospects across all formats. His calm nature, compact technique and ability to play long innings have impressed the selectors, making him a strong candidate to play the important No. 3 role in the Test team.

Although India are entering the series with a talented team, winning in Sri Lanka has never been easy. Slow surfaces traditionally assist spinners, while long batting requires patience and good technique against quality spin bowling.
