Kuldeep Yadav was once India’s leading wicket-taker spinner in white-ball cricket, but now he is nowhere to be found and is struggling to get chances in all formats. And former Indian spinner Maninder Singh blamed the national selectors and team management for the condition of the left-arm wrist spinner.
Kuldeep did not get a single match during India’s recent tour of Ireland and England. His frequent absence from the playing eleven has surprised many fans and former cricketers.
This forced the Chinaman bowler to sign both a red-ball and white-ball contract with Yorkshire for the remainder of the season to be able to receive regular match practice.

Following his contract extension, Maninder Singh criticized the lack of confidence shown by the India national cricket team management, as Kuldeep Yadav lost his place in the playing eleven. He believes that a bowler like Kuldeep cannot suddenly lose his wicket-taking ability.
The former spinner further said that when a player sits on the bench, he gradually starts losing confidence and the same is happening with the left arm wrist spinner. Meanwhile, the former Mumbai Indians star has criticized Gautam Gambhir for taking a break during the Zimbabwe tour.
“If the team management is not showing confidence, sometimes your wicket-taking ability can go down. I think he still has that ability. It’s just that if you keep him on the bench all the time and don’t give him a chance to play, you don’t give him confidence,” The Indian Express quoted Maninder Singh as saying.
He urged the think tank to have regular communication and provide regular assistance to Kuldeep. Maninder said, “If a bowler of Kuldeep Yadav’s caliber, who gets you wickets in the middle overs, suddenly starts going down, there must be a reason for it. And I think the reason is that he is not getting enough confidence from the team management. That is the only problem. Everything else is the same.”

The former Indian spinner also pointed out that Kuldeep Yadav has really improved his bowling over the years. He has worked hard on his pace, shoulders, body, follow-through and overall bowling action. He urged the team management to give Kuldeep confidence and regular opportunities and he would once again become India’s leading wicket-taking spinner.
Maninder further added, “The only problem at the moment is that he needs confidence. If you keep taking away his confidence, you will start talking about release position, ball drift and everything else, which is secondary. If you give the guy the confidence that a cricketer needs, you will see him back between the wickets.”

The former Indian spinner also raised questions on the current selection strategy of the team. He told that the team management is playing too many all-rounders because they want to bat till number eight and this is where they are making a mistake.
He believes that all-rounders are important in white-ball cricket, but they should not replace bowlers who can win matches with the ball. Maninder signed off by saying, “I am a bit surprised by the way the teams are being selected.
We are trying to get that cushion where we can increase our batting up to number eight. You cannot play all-rounders just because you think they will give you good performances. I want a bowler who can get you wickets in the middle overs and keep you in the game.
