The injury of the England all-rounder could prove to be a boon for Rajasthan Royals (RR). Former Team India batsman Kris Srikkanth feels that with Curran, the team may face a lot of trouble during IPL 2026. According to the latest reports, the seam bowling all-rounder will not be available for the 2026 Indian Premier League due to a groin injury.
Rajasthan Royals have not yet announced the replacement for Sam Curran. It is believed that Sri Lankan T20 team captain Dasun Shanaka can be the replacement for Curran. Yesterday it was reported that Shanaka has ruled himself out of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is scheduled to begin on March 26.
Dasun Shanaka likely to replace injured Sam Curran at Rajasthan Royals
If rumors are to be believed, Dasun Shanaka is all set to join an IPL team. But, where he will get his next contract is not yet clear, as several IPL teams are currently battling injury concerns, including Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Sam Curran was a key figure for the England cricket team in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026. Despite his credentials as a proven T20I batsman, he has been out of form throughout the T20 World Cup 2026. In the tournament, Sam Curran’s batting average was below 24, and with the ball, he conceded runs at an economy of around 9.50 in eight matches.
Kris Srikkanth’s big claim on Curran’s injury
“It’s unfortunate that he (Sam Curran) got injured. But if he had played, the opposition would have enjoyed his bowling. Everyone thrashed him in the T20 World Cup. So it doesn’t matter,” the former India captain said.
Curran’s last IPL season was also far from his best performance. While playing for CSK, he averaged less than 23 while playing only 5 matches. Five-time IPL winners CSK traded Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja in place of Sanju Samson in the off-season deal.
Looking forward to seeing former Indian cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi in action for Rajasthan Royals
Srikkanth is eagerly waiting to see teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi in action in IPL 2026 for Rajasthan Royals. The emerging opener announced his arrival in the cash-rich league by hitting a six against Shardul Thakur. Later in the tournament, the southpaw scored a century in 35 balls against Gujarat Titans and became the youngest centurion in T20 cricket.
Suryavanshi continued the same intensity and form in domestic cricket and international matches for the Under-19 Indian cricket team. He emerged as one of the major forces leading the Under-19 team India to claim the ICC Under-19 World Cup trophy. In the final, the Bihar batsman won the silver medal by scoring a record-breaking century against England.
I am waiting for Vaibhav Suryavanshi to perform well. Only then will he be swiftly included in the Indian side. He has proved himself at all levels except India. That too will happen very soon,” said Srikanth.
