KKR made some big investments in the IPL 2026 mini-auction, but none of them seemed very wise from a cricketing point of view, as they invested huge money on talented but out-of-form and injury-plagued cricketers.
Kolkata Knight Riders, under new head coach Abhishek Nair, clearly looked to rebuild a new team as they also released most of their big names, including franchise veteran Andre Russell. However, the players they chose instead did not seem like the wisest choices.
KKR made some wise choices in the form of New Zealand trio, Finn Allen, Tim Seifert and Rachin Ravindra. However, a big gamble was taken on players like Cameron Green and Sri Lankan fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana who did not appear to be reliable calls.
Australian legend gives big warning to KKR on Cameron Green’s poor form before IPL 2026
Former Australian legend Greg Chappell recently expressed concern about Cameron Green’s form ahead of the IPL 2026 season. As for the veteran cricketer, the Australian all-rounder who once looked like a promising athletic all-rounder is now stuck at the crease.
Chappell’s comments on the Australian all-rounder come ahead of his joining as KKR’s marquee player for the upcoming season.
He said, “I saw a very athletic young batsman who had a beautiful setup and was able to go in any direction, and now I see a batsman who is stuck at the crease, who can’t move, can’t use his athleticism and can’t use his reach to score runs.”
However, the former Australian captain highlighted that his batting has been affected by his bowling workload, and if he manages his skill set well and is given some quality advice, he can still be one of the finest all-rounders of the generation.
Chappell said, “The bowling has affected his batting. He can still be one of the great all-rounders of the game because he has the talent, but it depends on whether he has the mental skills to make decisions and run with it and whether he is getting the best advice about where he is going.”
Cameron Green’s stats in 2025 have been disappointing
Cameron Green’s statistics in international cricket last year have certainly been disappointing. The 26-year-old struggled during Australia’s World Cup campaign in the subcontinent, where he managed 24 runs in three matches with two single-digit scores and took just one wicket.
On the other hand, before the World Cup began, he was the leading run-scorer for Australia in the series against Pakistan, where the giants of world cricket were humiliated by the hosts. In that series, he was successful in scoring 93 runs at an average of 31 and strike rate of 124.
Cameron Green’s last half-century following his return to the Test format came against the West Indies in July 2025, and his last international century came against South Africa in August 2025. In the home Ashes series, he managed to score only 171 runs in eight innings at a terrible average of 24.42.
Cameron Green’s IPL stats
After making his debut in 2023, the 26-year-old Australian all-rounder has played the IPL twice for two renowned franchises, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2023 and 2024.
Green had the best debut season, as he scored 452 runs at an average of almost 50 with his first IPL century, and also took 6 wickets with the ball. However, his next season with the Royal Challengers did not go as planned, as he managed to score 255 runs in 13 matches and take 10 wickets with the ball.
Talking about great advice, the advice Chappell gave to Green to shape his career as an all-rounder will be passed down to him in the KKR camp. He will train under the guidance of Shane Watson, one of Australia’s greatest ever white-ball all-rounders.
