Former CSK spinner warns Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir to handle Vaibhav Suryavanshi carefully

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has performed brilliantly in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He has been the leading run scorer for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and is ranked fifth in the overall Orange Cap list with 254 runs in 7 innings. He has been one of the best discoveries of Indian cricket. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been impressive with his fearless approach.

However, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is still 15 years old and has a lot of time left in him; He needs to focus on his cricket ability. If he continues to impress in the IPL, the southpaw will soon make his debut for the India national cricket team. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the Player of the Tournament in the Under-19 World Cup for his exceptional performance.

Harbhajan Singh warned India regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Ahead of RR’s next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has warned the Men in Blue management to take a measured approach with the teenage batsman. The great spinner stressed the importance of nurturing him carefully if he wanted to develop as a Test player.

Bhajji said that young players will have a difficult phase in their lives and they need to adapt to the conditions and format of the game.

It’s about mentality-Harbhajan Singh

“Despite the ups and downs, they will learn eventually. But if a 15-year-old can hit the ball, he can also block. It’s about mentality; if you give him a chance, he will adapt to it,” Harbhajan said during an event at the Legends Club to celebrate Sachin Tendulkar’s 53rd birthday.

The former CSK spinner gave a stern warning to the management against youth in overseas conditions, especially in places like England, where swing can pose a tough time. “But if you send him to England for the first tour where the ball will swing, it would not be wise. If we want him to play Test cricket, we have to nurture him,” Harbhajan said.

I would make a strong recommendation that Test cricket- Harbhajan Singh

The ex-CSK spinner also focused on the overall structure of the game in India, stressing on the need to prioritize Test cricket and create playing wickets that allow matches to last for the full five days. He claimed that balanced surfaces will not only test the batsmen.

“I would make a strong recommendation that Test cricket should be a priority because that’s where you get the best cricket and cricketers. In Test cricket you get to see the best competition because it lasts for five days and the challenge is different every day,” he said.

“Obviously, there are a lot of things that happen on the pitch and accordingly, people need to change their mindset and adapt to those situations and come out as winners.”

Bhajji said on the nature of playing test cricket, you have to make a place for yourself

Citing Yashasvi Jaiswal as an example among the current generation, he also said that young batsmen like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre will need to develop the temperament required for red-ball cricket.

“They (upcoming batsmen) have to make a place for themselves and definitely create enough buzz that they are good enough to be included in the team for Test cricket,” he said.
