Fans rejoiced as the batsman scored his 84th international century.

Virat Kohli is in great form in the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa at home. After announcing his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025, Virat Kohli had an unforgettable comeback as he was out for back-to-back ducks in Australia.

But after scoring an unbeaten 74 off 81 balls in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, the right-handed batsman never looked back and now his new aggressive avatar in the format has surprised everyone.

After early setbacks, where both the openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were dismissed cheaply for 14 and 22 runs respectively, Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad took charge against South Africa in the ongoing second ODI in Raipur.

Their partnership has been a treat to watch for the fans. Gaikwad scored his maiden ODI century and only his second century in the international arena, but could not bat deep as Marco Jansen managed to get the better of the India star.

Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad broke 14 years record

However, during their innings, Gaikwad and Kohli made a record partnership of 195 runs off 156 balls for the third wicket in the ongoing second ODI against South Africa.

With this entertaining partnership in Raipur, India, they created a new record as the pair surpassed the 194-run partnership made by Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik in Gwalior in 2010. Kohli and Gaikwad’s partnership is now the highest for India against South Africa in any ODI.

However, after Gaikwad’s dismissal, the right-handed batsman had to remain cautious and wait for another century in the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa. But finally that moment came in the 38th over of the Indian innings when Kohli scored another century on home soil.

Virat Kohli creates another unbreakable record with 53rd ODI century in Raipur

Kohli completed his century by pushing a full ball to long on for a single against Marco Johnson. It was his back-to-back century and 53rd ODI century, and Kohli celebrated in his classic style, jumping slightly, punching the air, raising his arms and taking off his helmet.

He then looked up to the sky and thanked God for his 84th international century and warmly hugged his batting partner KL Rahul, who was batting on 14*. With this century, Kohli has added another incredible record to his name.

The Indian batting legend now has 11 different streaks where he has scored centuries in two or more consecutive ODI innings. No other player in cricket history comes close to this level of consistency. The second best is South African legend AB de Villiers, who has achieved such success six times in ODIs.
