India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final. The Men in Blue have become the first team to defend the T20 World Cup and also the first team to win the trophy on home soil. Suryakumar Yadav’s team has been excellent throughout the tournament; However, his best game came on final night.
The Men in Blue have faced problems with their bowling; However, every bowler stepped up and performed brilliantly in the final. The India national cricket team was invited to bat first after Mitchell Santner won the toss. India’s openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave a tremendous start and scored 92/0 in the powerplay.
Indian openers snatched the match
Both the openers scored half-centuries respectively. Abhishek Sharma took a big opportunity to score his second half-century of the tournament, scoring 52 runs in 21 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes. Sanju Samson, who had an amazing tournament, scored three consecutive fifties in big matches for the team, scoring 89 runs in 46 balls and putting India in the driver’s seat.
Ishan Kishan also scored a half-century and India posted a huge score of 255/5 in 20 overs. Amazing cameo from Shivam Dubey, scored 26 runs in 8 balls. Although Jimmy Neesham took three wickets for just one run in an over, he did not get any support from the other bowlers.
Jasprit Bumrah: the man, the myth, the legend
The Kiwis set out to chase and were on a flyer with Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. However, Axar Patel’s wicket fell later and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Seifert scored 52 runs on 26 balls. He was the highest run scorer that night. Mitchell Santner scored 43 runs in 35 balls; However, no support was received.
Jasprit Bumrah has been the biggest asset for the team as he finished with a spell of 4/15 in his four overs. He also finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker with Varun Chakravarthy with 14 wickets.
Akshar Patel once again bowled brilliantly and took three wickets. Varun, Abhishek and Hardik took one wicket each. This is the first time that India has defeated New Zealand in the T20 World Cup format. The team will remember this for a long time as it will become a part of history.
