India Continued his excellent performance on the second day of the second test against west indies The day ended on a strong note at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The hosts, led by their bowlers, scored a mammoth score of 518/5 (D) in their first innings. Ravindra JadejaWreaked havoc and left the visitors at 140/4, still trailing by 378 runs.
Shubman Gill is at the forefront with a brilliant century
captain Shubman Gill Proving once again why he is considered one of India’s brightest young talents. The right-handed batsman started the day with 92 runs and played a brilliant innings of 129 not out with excellent timing and composure. His innings included 16 fours and two sixes, as he anchored India’s batting and ensured declaration of the innings at a time that suited the team’s bowling plans.
Gill’s calm and deliberate approach underlined his growing maturity as a leader. He took his time at the start of the day and hit boundaries with ease on both sides of the wicket before accelerating after lunch. His ability to rotate the strike and build partnerships made the innings all the more impressive.
India’s batting attack was initially inspired by Yashasvi JaiswalWho started the second day on 173 runs, but unfortunately got out after a mess with Gill. Attempting to take a quick single, Jaiswal fell a few inches short of the crease and was returned in disappointment at 175. Despite missing out on a double century, the left-handed batsman’s innings provided the perfect foundation for India’s huge first innings score.
After Jaiswal was out, Nitish Reddy (43) and Dhruv Jurel (44) played a crucial cameo, ensuring that the momentum remained with India. His partnerships with Gill helped the hosts cross the 500-run mark before Gill decided to declare the innings at 518/5.
Ravindra Jadeja cast a net around the West Indies batsmen
In reply, the West Indies batsmen struggled to find rhythm against India’s quality spin attack. Ravindra Jadeja Was the star of the show, taking three wickets to dismantle the Caribbean top order. His accuracy, flight and subtle variations made batting a nightmare for the visitors.
Jadeja’s ability to exploit the rough spots on the pitch led to early successes, while the rest of India’s bowling unit kept the pressure constant. West Indies’ score at stumps was 140/4 John Campbell’Strange out on Jadeja’s ball – caught out. Sai Sudarshan In an incredible turnaround effort – one of the highlights of the day. Shai Hope (31 not out) and Tevin Imlach (14 not out) remained unbeaten on the second day.
Already with a huge lead and the momentum tilted in their favour, India are ready to strive for victory on the third day. Meanwhile, the visiting team will face an uphill battle to avoid the follow-on and keep the series alive.
