In the final of Ranji Trophy 2025-26, KarnatakaExperienced campaigner of Mayank Agarwal He produced one of the most important innings of his career, scoring a strong century to keep his team afloat against an impressive Jammu and Kashmir At KSCA Rajnagar Stadium. Despite Agarwal’s heroics, Karnataka remain in a precarious position as they chase Jammu and Kashmir’s mammoth score of 584 in the first innings.
Mayank Agarwal’s explosive innings amid the collapse
Coming off a season where his form was in question, Agarwal chose the grandest stage of domestic cricket to rediscover his touch. Karnataka had a poor start to the third day in reply to J&K’s 584 runs. The top order, which featured stars like KL Rahul (13) and Devdutt Padikkal (11), collapsed due to a sensational opening spell from J&K’s Auqib Nabi.
At 57/4, Karnataka looked set for a humiliating follow-on. However, Agarwal stood like a rock at one end. Showing tremendous discipline against the moving ball, he slowly rebuilt the innings and brought up his 21st first-class century in the final session of the day. His celebration โ a simple raising of the helmet โ received a standing ovation in the Karnataka dressing room.
Shreyas Gopal’s support
While wickets were falling at the other end, Agarwal found a steady partner Shreyas Gopal. Both made an important partnership of 87 runs for the fifth wicket. Gopal (25) played brilliantly against Agarwal and blunted the Jammu and Kashmir pace attack which had already been on fire.
Although Gopal fell late, Agarwal’s presence ensured Karnataka reached 176/5 by the time the shadow grew long in Hubli.
This match was not without drama. On the second day, he got into a scuffle with the captain of Jammu and Kashmir. Paras Dogra Karnataka reportedly bowed down KV Anish After the sledging incident. Agarwal had to play the role of a peacemaker on that occasion, the same nature he adopted in his batting today.
