Fans go crazy as Bangladesh beats West Indies in 3rd ODI to clinch series

Bangladesh finished the ODI series against West Indies on a high note. Won by 179 runs in the third and final match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, to win the series 2–1.

Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hasan are leading the batting of Bangladesh

After electing to bat first, the hosts posted a strong score of 296/8 on the board with the help of brilliant half-centuries from Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hasan, before dismantling the West Indies batting lineup in just 30.1 overs.

Sarkar, who was later named player of the match, continued his brilliant innings of 91 runs in 86 balls with the help of seven fours and four sixes. His opening partner Saif provided equally strong support, scoring an explosive 80 off 72 balls with six fours and as many sixes. The pair made the perfect platform for Bangladesh’s innings by making a brilliant partnership of 142 runs for the first wicket.

After a bright start, former captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto contributed 44 runs with the help of three sixes in 55 balls, while Tauheed Hridoy played a patient inning of 28 runs in 44 balls. Despite a middle-order collapse, quick innings from Nurul Hasan (16 off 8 balls) and Mehdi Hasan Miraj (17 off 17 balls) took Bangladesh close to 300 runs.

West Indies bowlers faced a tough task, although Akeal Hosein expertly mixed flight and control with a brilliant spell of 4/41 in his 10 overs. Alek Athanaz also took 2/37, while Roston Chase and Gudakesh Moti took one wicket each. However, the visitors conceded runs in the death overs, allowing Bangladesh to finish on a strong 296/8 in 50 overs.

West Indies collapse in run chase

Chasing 297 to win, West Indies’ innings never gained momentum. The visitors suffered an early defeat as they lost the wickets of captain Shai Hope (4 of 16) and Akeem Auguste (0) within the first few overs. The Bangladeshi bowlers exploited the surface efficiently, maintaining constant pressure through spin and variation.

At the top of the order, Brandon King scored a quickfire 18 off 17 balls, while Alek Athanaz and Casey Carty both scored 15 runs. The lower order offered little resistance, except for Akeal Hossein, who briefly staved off the inevitable by scoring 27 runs in 15 balls with four fours and a six.

Bangladesh’s spinners planned the demolition with surgical precision. Nasum Ahmed was the main destroyer, returning impressive figures of 3/11 in 6 overs. Tanvir Islam (2/16) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2/35) held tight, while Rishad Hussain supported them with 3/54. West Indies were eventually bowled out for 117 in 30.1 overs, one of their biggest ODI defeats in recent memory.

Bangladesh won the series 2-1 with a spectacular victory

The win marked Bangladesh’s second series win of the year and a fitting end to the competitive contest.
