The Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is in the final stages of the competition. Fans have already found one finalist, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and they are waiting for the winner of Gujarat Titans/Rajasthan Royals. However, amid this, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has resigned from his captaincy role ahead of the next season.
Rishabh Pant and his boys finished bottom of the table with 8 points, having won only four games and lost 10. Their points were similar to Mumbai Indians (MI), but their run rate was worse. The southpaw failed to take the team to the playoffs for the second consecutive season and was also quiet with the bat.
Rishabh Pant left the captaincy
The latest development is that Rishabh Pant has asked the management to resume his captaincy duties with the franchise in the IPL. This is a big decision as the management paid him Rs 27 crore in the 2025 auction and he is currently the highest paid player in IPL history. In 2026, he scored 312 runs at an average of just over 28.
“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) wishes to formally announce that Rishabh Pant has requested to be relieved of captaincy duties with the franchise, and the franchise has accepted his request with immediate effect.”
We have accepted it respectfully- Tom Moody said on Pant leaving the captaincy
LSG Director of Cricket Tom Moody said, “Rishabh approached the franchise with this request and we have respectfully accepted it. These decisions are never easy. We are grateful for what Rishabh has brought to this dressing room as captain. Our focus now is on collectively rebuilding and restructuring to reach the best standards.”
Rishabh Pant, who joined LSG with a lot of expectations after coming back from a gruesome injury, was expected to shine in the IPL and take the franchise to new heights. But he failed as a leader and that affected his batting as well.

But is he leaving LSG??
Why are you people giving half-baked information that he has been relieved from the post of “Captain”?
Is he going as a player too???
