His strike rate in the smallest format has often been questioned, and many experts felt that they would face strict competition to secure a place.

However, Gill’s outstanding leadership in the recently concluded testing series in England, where he impressed by both bat and strategic skills, has worked in his favor. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar Addressing the decision in the presser, said: “They have crossed all our expectations.”
