Months of hard work finally paid off. Nepal finally tasted victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. On 17 February, they defeated Scotland by 7 wickets and 4 balls to spare at the prestigious Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Cricket fans around the world are praising Nepal national cricket team for achieving the historic feat. Social media platforms are already filled with countless posts just to show support to the team that has won many hearts with its efforts. The win against Scotland is the first T20 World Cup win for Nepal cricket team in 12 years.
Nepal counts its battles in quest to win the World Cup
Nepal cricket team had performed brilliant cricket against some big names of its group i.e. Group C. His fight against England will be remembered for a long time. They came very close to pulling off the upset but fell short by only a small margin.
Talking about today’s match, Nepal won the toss and invited Scotland to bat first. In the first innings, the bowlers performed quite impressively, restricting the Scotland cricket team to only 170 runs in 20 overs, taking 7 wickets. Sompal Kami was the most successful bowler against Scotland by taking 3 wickets. Nandan Yadav also scored two goals.
One of the best run chases ever in the tournament
Nepali batsmen did not have to work hard to achieve the target. They achieved their much awaited victory by losing only 3 wickets. Deependra Singh Airi, one of the most explosive batsmen of the team, played an unbeaten inning of 50 runs in 23 balls. His innings was decorated with four fours and three sixes. Kushal Bhurtel faced 35 balls and scored 43 runs. His opening partner Asif Shaikh contributed 33 runs.
Nepal’s experienced captain Rohit Paudel was overwhelmed with the result. After leading the team in two World Cups, Paudel got his chance to win. He said that this victory is not only important for him but also for the entire team.
Captain’s words
“I think it means a lot to me, especially because it’s my second World Cup as captain and I’m winning my first game in the last league stage. So I think this game was very important not only for me, but for us as a team,” the captain said after comfortably defeating Scotland.
He thanked the Indian crowd for their continued support to the team.
The captain said, “I think this win was very important for them also because they watched our game against England. The crowd was already here and then they started booking tickets and then they came here.”
