Ajinkya Rahane once again got out cheaply in the current IPL 2026 season. In a match, when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are looking for a much-needed win against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the home ground Eden Gardens, the captain quickly departs.
This could be a big blow for KKR as the pitch is a bit difficult to bat on. The first innings of the KKR vs MI match was mostly dominated by the bowlers. Aggressive MI batsmen like Tilak Verma, Naman Dheer and Ryan Rickelton proved ineffective against the KKR bowling attack.
KKR lost early wickets against Mumbai Indians
On a surface where the bowlers are getting some extra support, KKR need something that can play the role of anchor. Ajinkya Rahane could have been that man, but he had to score 21 off 17.
His opening partner Finn Allen also departed during the power play. The target is not very big, 148, but the Kolkata pitch and weather have made the contest more interesting.

With Ajinkya Rahane in the side, it will be difficult for KKR to chase any score above 130.
MI is 51% ahead now

If the pitch does not play well in the second innings then Ajinkya Rahane will have to stay till the end and if the pitch plays well then the NRR will have to improve. I think maybe this will be a tough chase? pic.twitter.com/GhnbdxcCRk

Bat well for the team sometime, Ajinkya Rahane. Today the conditions are like those of a test match. pic.twitter.com/86kOyg5NX5
