Following the embarrassing ball tampering allegation against Fakhar Zaman in the match against Karachi Kings, the Pakistani batsman has been handed the maximum penalty by match referee Roshan Mahanama.
The Pakistan Super League was already facing some major setbacks in 2026. The season, which was expected to be one of the biggest seasons in the history of the PSL, has been restricted to two exclusive venues, with closed-door matches in the PSL. The reason for this is the ongoing shortage of resources in Pakistan after the war in the Middle East.
Fakhar Zaman banned from PSL
Amidst all this tension, a horrifying incident took place in the PSL game between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. As the Kings needed 14 runs from the final over, the umpires found Qalandars guilty of altering the shape of the ball.
Due to this he had to take a penalty of five runs and the Kings won the game. After the win, Fakhar Zaman was questioned by match referee Roshan Mahanama, who accused him of ball tampering.
Then Fakhar had denied any such allegation. The match referee gave Zaman the maximum possible penalty. He has been banned for the upcoming two matches.
