Suryakumar Yadav’s rejection from the national team surprised former Team India batsman Subramaniam Badrinath. Although he welcomes Shreyas Iyer as the newly appointed leader of the T20 International team, he is not convinced that the selectors have completely left Yadav out of the team.

Before the announcement of the team, there was speculation about Suryakumar Yadav for a long time. As per claims from various sources, poor form with the bat is being considered as the only reason for his ouster.

Badrinath compared the dismissals of Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma

Subramaniam Badrinath claims that the selectors have taken a tough decision and made it clear that this is the end of the road for Suryakumar Yadav, who helped the team win the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. The former cricketer is afraid to say that Yadav’s international career may have reached its final stage.

It sounds harsh to be shunned after winning the World Cup trophy, but it is nothing new in Indian cricket. Badrinath told that the team management treated Rohit Sharma in the same way.

“This is definitely the end of the road for Suryakumar Yadav. We won’t be seeing him in international cricket anymore. His win percentage as a T20I captain is very high. Yet, these selectors have conveniently dropped him.”

“The same thing happened with Rohit Sharma after winning the Champions Trophy. There is a certain ruthlessness in the current team management,” Subramaniam Badrinath said on his YouTube channel Cric with Badri.

Former cricketer welcomes Shreyas Iyer as captain

I agree with the decision to appoint Shreyas Iyer as captain, because he has been a great leader in the IPL. But I was surprised because a World Cup-winning captain, who has not yet announced his retirement, was immediately dropped because his batting performance has been poor,” he said.

The decision of Ajit Agarkar and his panel has also created uncertainty over Yadav’s IPL career with Mumbai Indians, as his batting remains in the slums. In the last IPL season, the experienced middle-order batting average was only 20.76.

“Suddenly, it makes me wonder – will we see Suryakumar Yadav released from Mumbai Indians? Because his career in T20 cricket is on the decline. Even for MI, his performances have dropped significantly and have been very poor this season,” Badrinath said.

This is the reality: Subramaniam Badrinath

The 49-year-old further mentioned that this is the reality of the game, even after a good career it can be ended in the blink of an eye. Yadav, considered one of the best batsmen worldwide in the T20 format, won the T20 World Cup but still found himself out of the competition.

“This is the reality of a cricketer’s life, though. Your career will be over in the blink of an eye. Surya was a World Cup-winning captain before the IPL, and now, after the IPL, he has been dropped. His Indian cricketing career is over,” the former cricketer said in the same video.
