With India coming into the England series after a disappointing T20 series defeat to Ireland, the demand for Suryavanshi’s inclusion has intensified. The teenager has created huge excitement among the fans, making his potential debut one of the biggest talking points ahead of Wednesday’s opening clash.

During the pre-match press conference, a reporter highlighted how the conversation around the young player dominated the discussions, saying, “It is very difficult for the coach and the captain, all this pomp and splendor going on everywhere.”

However, Iyer insisted that he was not paying attention to external noise. The Indian captain made it clear that his focus is on preparing the team completely rather than getting involved in speculations regarding selection.

“I’m not seeing anything like that. Honestly, I don’t know. I don’t follow the news, or follow what’s going on social media, Instagram. I haven’t heard anything.”Iyer replied.

India has kept the playing eleven a secret before the opening match of the series.

Despite being asked repeatedly, Iyer refused to confirm whether Suryavanshi would make his senior international debut against England or not. The captain said that India’s team management has already discussed its plans internally and will not reveal its playing combination before the match.

“You never know what is going to happen. Our hands are tied right now as to what we will do. It is private. It is something we discuss within the team. We cannot reveal our combination to the opponents.” He said.

Iyer praised the teenage sensation and supported every player. Refusing to reveal the playing XI, Iyer insisted that the team selection is based on the rewarding performance of the entire team rather than focusing on any one player.

“Everyone in the team has performed. It’s not just one individual. We need to build confidence and provide opportunities for each player so that everyone feels good going into the tournament. The players who helped India win the T20 World Cup, they understand the format; they are essential. So, it is important to support them.” The Chembur-born cricketer explained.

Even though Suryavanshi’s debut is uncertain, Iyer had no doubts about the youngster’s ability and expressed full confidence in his ability. These comments underline India’s measured approach towards one of the country’s most talented young cricketers. Instead of sending this young player to international cricket due to public demand, the management seems keen to introduce him when the team combination allows.

“Definitely, he is a brilliant talent. When he gets a chance to play, he will definitely excel.” Iyer added.
