A member of England’s security team confronted a Channel 7 camera operator at Brisbane Airport ahead of the third Test against Australia in the 2025-26 Ashes. As the team arrived amid mounting criticism and media pressure, the security officer was seen pushing the cameraman while trying to save the players.
The Ben Stokes-led team had lost the first two Test matches in Perth and Brisbane. They gave the home team a 0-2 lead and they will have to win the next game to stay in the series race. On Saturday the visiting team left for Adelaide from Brisbane. Before their flight, an uncomfortable moment unfolded at Brisbane Airport.
England security guard involved in ugly airport brawl with Channel 7 cameraman
As the England players arrived from Noosa after a short break, cameramen moved in to film the team. However, the security officer intervened and physically pushed him back.
The collision occurred when the England team was heading towards the flight to Adelaide for the third Test. Photographs taken at the scene showed the guard extending his hand and approaching the cameraman, although the operator appeared to maintain a respectful distance.
The Channel 7 camera operator was surprised by the security guard’s reaction. Despite insisting that he was simply standing in his place, the guard repeatedly blocked his view.
The security guard said, “Not in front of me, buddy…don’t be sneaky.”
Cricket Australia sets clear limits for media conduct during the Ashes
Cricket Australia had already set clear boundaries for media conduct during the Ashes, and reminded broadcasters that players from both teams should be accommodated during the trip.
The guidelines state that no interviews are allowed during transit and any airport or hotel footage must be taken from a respectful distance.
“The Australian and England teams will not be available for interviews while in transit between matches during the NRMA Ashes series. All airport, hotel and transit only scenes are to be taken from a respectful distance.”
England are facing increasing media pressure after consecutive defeats in the Ashes.
England are under a lot of pressure from the media after losing the first two Ashes Tests and this pressure has increased even more as they need a win in Adelaide to stay in the series.
Even before this incident, England was followed everywhere by journalists and fans. The team had asked their security staff to remain calm and avoid overreacting as the people they met only wanted to take selfies or quick pictures.
In Australia, players have handled the extra attention with good humour. He allowed filming during his golf session, made fun of drones flying above him and even made light of the “no helmet on e-scooter” story. They also agreed to photos and jokes with local radio hosts on the beach in Noosa.
However, the mood of the team has changed after two big defeats. The clash at the airport was the first clear sign of tensions, showing how the pressure of poor results was beginning to affect the normally relaxed atmosphere around the England team.
