England Playing XI vs New Zealand – 1st T20I, England tour of New Zealand 2025:
Openers: Philip Salt, Jos Buttler (wk)
England will be looking to build on the emphatic win they recorded in the last T20I against South Africa, where they crossed the 300-run mark.
The Harry Brook-led side will be looking to repeat the same batting performance in the first of three T20Is against New Zealand on Saturday (October 18).
Given their strength in the batting department, the English batsmen will find themselves backed to do so, starting with the opening pair of Philip Salt and Jos Buttler.
Both the batsmen are known for their aggressive style in the first six overs and the top order will look to play exactly the same against the New Zealand bowling attack.
As well as setting a platform for the incoming batsmen, both Salt and Buttler will be looking to score some runs to gain confidence for the upcoming matches.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Jacob Bethel, Harry Brook (captain), Tom Banton, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran.
The opening pair will be followed by the middle order which has a good mix of youth and experience and includes players like Jacob Bethel, Harry Brook, Tom Banton, Jordan Cox and Sam Curran.
Although at first glance the above mentioned batsmen appear to be relatively new to international cricket, they have a lot of experience when it comes to playing in various T20 leagues around the world.
The batsman would like to put that experience to use in the first T20I against New Zealand and help the team reach a better score while batting first.
The onus will be on captain Harry Brook to lead from the front and the onus will be on the other batsmen like Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton and Sam Curran to provide good support, especially in the middle stages of England’s batting innings.
Bowlers: Liam Dawson, Brydon Carse, Adil Rashid, Luke Wood
As far as the team’s bowling lineup is concerned, it will be ready to do its job to perfection against the batting line-up which includes some quality players like Daryl Mitchell and Tim Robinson.
England are expected to field four specialist bowlers and Sam Curran as a fast-bowling all-rounder who will bat in the top seven and can also bowl with the new ball if needed.
Curran will be accompanied by Luke Wood and Brayden Carse and all three will be entrusted with the responsibility of taking wickets in all three phases of the innings.
The spin bowling department will be handled by Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson, both of whom have a lot of experience when it comes to T20 cricket and will hope to control things in the middle overs.
