Legendary Australia coach David Secker has been brought back to reprise his role as the England team’s fast bowling coach after Tim Southee revealed he was stepping aside following the conclusion of the Perth Test.
England will advance to play against Australia in the Ashes this summer. The Ashes begins with the first Test in Perth on November 21. With the second Test starting on December 4, bowling consultant Tim Southee will be unavailable due to franchise commitments.
He will depart from England after the conclusion of the first Test to join his team in the ILT20 league to be held in Abu Dhabi. Since then England have been looking for a bowling coach and have finally decided on an Australian.
David Secker rejoins England as “expert skills adviser”
Former England bowling coach David Secker has been appointed as England’s fast bowling coach for the upcoming Ashes tour. The Australian players will be reprising the role they played 15 years ago during England’s first overseas Ashes win in 2010–11, ending the wait since 1987.
However, until Saudi’s departure, Saqer and Southee will work together for the warm-up match against the Lions in Perth as well as the opening Test, before Saqer takes charge of the entire bowling deck.
The rest of the English support staff remains intact, led by head coach Brendon McCullum, but Paul Collingwood, who is absent due to personal reasons, is also likely to miss the Ashes tour. Saker was England’s fast bowling coach between 2010-15 and played a key role when England won the Ashes on foreign soil. He was also recalled for the victorious 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.

Although Saker’s appointment is a last-minute one, it is a continuation of England’s long-term plans to take a group of attacking fast bowlers to Australia in an attempt to terrorize the Australian team on their home turf. England are eyeing winning the Ashes series for the second time on Australian soil since 1987.
A recent trend established by England and adopted around the world features the appointment of coaches on a short-term basis who have provided information about the specific conditions in which they will be playing. England had appointed Mike Hussey and Kieron Pollard for the World Cup in Australia and West Indies.
England are preparing for a complete pace attack, with the return of their fastest fast bowlers. they will like Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts are in the team. Only the return of Chris Woakes remains in the news.
England to continue mental skills coach for Perth Test
England further confirmed that mental skills coach Gilbert Enoka will work closely with the England team for the first Test in Perth. He gained widespread fame after coining the word “no” D***heads policy.”
“He’s amazing,” white-ball captain Harry Brook said of Anoka. “He’s been in the Test team a bit and he’s a great guy. He brings a lot of knowledge into the mental side of the game which is an important part of cricket and the professional game. To have him in the ranks, to be able to have a chat for just five or 10 minutes, is amazing.”
Enoka worked with the Test team earlier this year and is currently with the England team on the New Zealand tour.
