England give Nat Sciver-Brunt injury update ahead of Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals

England Women confirmed that captain Nat Sciver-Brunt is recovering well but will not play in the team’s final group-stage match against New Zealand. The all-rounder has been sidelined with a calf injury and also missed England’s win over West Indies at Lord’s.

The team revealed that Sciver-Brunt had an MRI scan on Wednesday, which showed encouraging progress. He also resumed batting in the nets, but the medical staff decided that he needed more rehabilitation before returning to match action.

“England Women can confirm that Nat Sciver-Brunt had an MRI scan on Wednesday and it showed she is making good progress. Nat also batted in the nets on Wednesday.”

“Although his calf is responding well to treatment, the England medical team feel he needs a little more time to rehabilitate before being available for selection, so he will miss the group match against New Zealand.”

Nate Sciver-Brunt suffers second calf injury of the season

Nat Sciver-Brunt felt discomfort in his left calf while batting during England’s group-stage match against Ireland. The England captain retired hurt after feeling strain after scoring 48 not out, with her team needing only nine more runs to complete the chase.

Scans later confirmed a calf injury, ruling the 33-year-old out of England’s next matches. To manage his workload, the team had already limited his bowling responsibilities while relying on his batting during the tournament.

The injury is the second calf problem Sciver-Brunt has suffered this season. Earlier, he had suffered a minor injury during domestic cricket on 29 April, due to which he had to be ruled out of England’s white-ball series against New Zealand and India.

Before the latest setback, Sciver-Brunt had enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign with the bat. He played an unbeaten inning of 46 runs against Sri Lanka and followed this with another unbeaten inning of 48 runs against Ireland.

England maintain their unbeaten run in the group stage campaign

England also scored the highest team score in Women’s T20 World Cup history during their win over Sri Lanka. They scored 219/1, with opener Danny Wyatt-Hodge producing an impressive batting display of 105 not out from 62 balls.

England’s bowlers have also impressed throughout the tournament. Freya Kemp performed brilliantly against Sri Lanka with figures of 4/22, while Charlie Dean took important wickets against Ireland to help England maintain their unbeaten record.
