Ben Stokes has suffered a retired injury for the first time
Stokes gave his best performance with the bat in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in Manchester. He looked at the brilliant touch and scored easily in the middle.
Ben Stokes suppressed a huge 142-rran partnership in 219 balls with Joe Root to push India out of the game completely. Stokes completed his fifty in 97 balls, and the way he was batting, it seemed that he would finally be killed in a century after a long time.
However, this did not happen because he was facing fitness issues in the middle and was hurt at a score of 66 after the 116th over. This was the first time Ben Stokes retired in international cricket.
As Stokes dropped out of the field and Jamie Smith arrived in the middle, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting was left worried while commenting for Sky Sports. He said:
“It is rare to see that a batsman leaves the field with cramps. But Stokes clearly feels that he cannot bat properly and is really hindering his team’s progress – or it’s something more frightening …”
Meanwhile, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) were in a hurry to release an official update on Stokes. The ECB stated that Ben Stokes has no recurrence of hamstring injury and is suffering from his left leg cramps.
