A day after the BCCI announced the squad for the T20I series against England, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced its squad for the Twenty20 International series on Monday, June 22.
Harry Brook remains the T20I captain for the England cricket team, with Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid and Phil Salt being the experienced candidates in the squad.
While uncapped all-rounder James Coles has been called up for the high-profile series, Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton missed out due to injury.
ECB removes top talent for England vs India T20I series
The England Men’s selection panel has announced a squad of 17 players for the Vitality IT20 series against India. Uncapped all-rounder James Coles has been called up to the England men’s squad for the first time,” the ECB revealed in its official announcement.
“Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker and Saqib Mahmood return, who were not part of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. Braydon Carse and Jamie Overton are unavailable due to injury,” it added.
Why did the ECB announce the 17-man squad?
In an official release on its website, the ECB mentioned that James Coles has been selected for the series due to his impressive performances in T20 tournaments during the last 12 months. As the hosts will go straight into preparations for the series against India, the board has named an extended squad to remain flexible in any circumstances.
“James Coles is an exciting player and has earned his place with the England Lions following his performances in T20 competitions here and abroad over the last 12 months. “We have selected a larger squad to accommodate the fact that this series will start immediately after the Test series against New Zealand ends, which allows us to be flexible,” England men’s national selector Marcus North said.
