Former India national cricket team spinner Maninder Singh has shared his bold views on star batsman Shubman Gill, which has been handed over to the sub-captaini for the Asia Cup 2025.
Maninder Singh also dropped a blunt statement on Punjab Kings (PBK) captain, Shreyas Iyer, which was left out of the India team for the Asia Cup 2025.
Shubman Gill selected, but Shreyas Iyer ignored by BCCI
Shubman Gill has made a comeback to the Indian T20I team for the Asia Cup 2025 and has been named the deputy of Suryakumar Yadav.
He staged his T20I return for the Continental Tournament, which will be played against the England National Cricket Team from 9 to 28 September in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 from September 28.
Meanwhile, the most shocking snub in-form in India’s squad was Shreyas Iyer. The right -handed batsmen have been as their life in 2025 and have exceptionally performed well in forms.
Shreyas Iyer took Punjab Kings to the final of IPL 2025 and scored 604 runs and scored at an amazing average of 50.33 and at an outstanding strike rate of 175.07. However, he did not receive the desired support from the selectors and was completely excluded from the squad.
I really don’t know why he keeps on leaving – Maninder Singh
Maninder Singh said that the selection committee for the continental tournament was very disappointed to see Shreyas Iyer and Yashsvi Jaiswal.
He was in particular, angry to see Shreyas Iyer’s abuse over the years, as he feels that the batsman has a positive attitude and he can make a big contribution to the team.
He said, “Look, I was a little disappointed to see these two names. Jayswal, I think it is ready for any format and should be in any team,” he told PTI video.
“As far as Iyer is concerned, I mean, you know, I do not really know why he stays out of the Indian side because he is a brilliant player and such a positive player and contribute to the team.
“But then it has been happening for years. And when one and a few years pass, you do not give him a chance, you will find someone else and you will forget about all these things. But it should not happen.”

He is going to be our future captain – Maninder Singh
Singh further stated that the BCCI Selection Committee gave a clear message as T20I Vice-Captain with the appointment of Shubman Gill that he would lead India in the near future.
“Look, I think the selectors originally decided that he is going to be our future captain. And if he is going to be the captain of our future, then you make him a good-control because Surya Kumar Yadav can have only two years of T20 cricket, then you can get gill under it.”
In particular, Shubman Gill is already a Test skipper of the India National Cricket Team and Rohit Sharma’s deputy.
