Dushan Hemantha lost his wicket in a strange manner during the Super 8 match between Sri Lanka and England in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder came out to bat when his team was in a critical position. Chasing 147, the Islanders were in trouble at 52/6 in the 9th over when Dushan Hemantha joined captain Dasun Shanaka in the middle. However, the 31-year-old could only last for 8 balls before a moment of bad luck cost him his dismissal.

Dushan Hemantha hit wicket out
Dushan Hemantha lost his wicket in the 12th over when he was facing Jamie Overton. On the last ball of the over, the Sri Lankan star was hit-wicket, leaving the home fans at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium absolutely stunned.
Overton bowled a sharp short ball and Dushan Hemantha made haste. The ball hit his body and he failed to make good contact. He also lost control on the follow-through and dislodged the bail from his bat in an unfortunate and rare hit-wicket out.
Sri Lanka in deep crisis:
Things got worse for Sri Lanka with the dismissal of Dushan Hemantha. With his departure, their score became 69/7 at the end of the 12th over. Till the time of writing the report, their score in the 16th over was 87/8. Captain Dasun Shanaka showed some flexibility with the bat but he too could not lead his team to victory.
He was dismissed by Adil Rashid for 30 runs in the 15th over. The host team is facing a big defeat in its first Super 8 match of the tournament.
Earlier in the match, Phil Salt’s fighting half-century helped England recover from a poor situation and post a challenging score of 146/9. While no other England batsman could score more than 21 runs, Salt scored 62 runs in 40 balls with the help of 6 fours and two sixes.
