Dunith Veller fights the biggest crisis amid Asia Cup campaign
A few days ago, playing the match against Afghanistan, Dunith Vellage’s father died after suffering a sudden heart attack. Just after the match was completed, the 21 -year -old young man went back to his home.
Dunith’s father, Suranga Vellage, was a respected cricketer in Sri Lanka, as he captained one of the major school teams in Sri Lanka. The former player left the Prince of Wales College at a time when great Sri Lankan cricketers like Russell Arnold captained other college teams.
Star flew to attend the funeral of his deceased father and also received support from Lankan coach Sanath Jayasuria. The funeral was performed a day earlier, yesterday, 19 September.
Teams and fans respect Vellage’s father with one minute silence
Despite facing one of the greatest tragedies of his life, the Lankan boy, who is just 21 years old, gathered courage and showed immense patience to fly back to the UAE to act in the Asia Cup 2025 Super -4 matches for Sri Lanka.
A turbulent 48 hours in the life of a growing cricketer, but he took over it with great creation and therefore received praise for his determination. Vellage’s commitment to his national side also praised him with former Sri Lankan cricketer Russell Arnold.
A minute’s silence was also seen before the start of the match in honor of the late Suranga Vellage, as all the players and fans of both teams paid their tribute to the cricketer’s father. In addition, the players were donating black armband.

Sri Lanka batted for the first time in opening a super -4 competition
Sri Lanka is taking Bangladesh at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the 13th match of Asia Cup 2025. Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss and opted for the field against the former champion.
