India’s long-awaited Bangladesh tour may finally happen after months of uncertainty. Actually, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are now working together on planning for a white ball series in September.
India had canceled its Bangladesh tour last year due to diplomatic tensions between the two countries. After this, cricket relations between BCCI and BCB turned sour.
Later, Bangladesh also withdrew from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dropped Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026 earlier this year on the orders of BCCI. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer credited the stand-in coach after India’s 3-0 series win over Zimbabwe.
India vs Bangladesh white-ball series is back on track after months of uncertainty
Now, a fresh update shared by Times of India suggests that the white-ball series between India and Bangladesh could finally take place in September 2026. Although the series has not been confirmed yet, both BCB and BCCI are making full preparations so that everything is ready if they get approval from the Indian government to tour Bangladesh.
If the approval is received on time, India could travel to Bangladesh in the first half of September for a white-ball series. The BCCI is reportedly planning to postpone India’s three-match T20 series against Afghanistan to make the Bangladesh tour possible once the government gets the green signal.
The Afghanistan series was to be held in Delhi from September 13, but now it may be shifted to some other date to make space for the Bangladesh tour. Meanwhile, the India legend has urged the selectors to pick Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the 2027 World Cup as soon as possible.
Bangladesh has prepared stadiums for India tour
Interestingly, keeping in mind the possible India tour, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has kept all its stadiums vacant from September 1. The Board has also prepared different schedule options so that BCCI can choose the most suitable option for the India national cricket team.
India is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series, which will conclude on August 27. If the Afghanistan T20I series gets postponed, India will get a two-week gap in September. That window can be used to play a white-ball series in Bangladesh.
BCB has shown flexibility in the schedule. Its first choice is to organize three T20 matches at one venue and three ODI matches at another venue. Dhaka and Chattogram have almost been finalized for the matches. Even if such a situation arises, both BCCI and BCB are ready to play only ODI or T20 matches.
ICC meeting gives new hope to India vs Bangladesh series
BCCI and BCB officials reportedly discussed the possible tour during the recent ICC meetings in London. One of the main topics was India’s commitment to the Afghanistan series and how both tours could fit into the international calendar.
Although both the boards are planning, the tour can happen only after getting permission from the Government of India. The BCCI had already informed the national selectors about the Afghanistan series, but the official announcement has been delayed.
Now, reports claim that preparations for the Afghanistan series have slowed down as the Bangladesh tour has become the main focus. If BCCI’s approval is received, it will improve relations between the two neighboring cricket countries.
