There is a lot of hype surrounding Vaibhav Suryavanshi as everyone is waiting for the 15-year-old to feature for the Indian cricket team in the T20Is against England. Amidst the ongoing speculations regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut match, Team India’s legendary captain Kapil Dev made some important comments ahead of India vs England 2.Ra T20I match in Manchester.
Due to the immense publicity, Kapil Dev is worried about the future of the young batsman. The former India cricketer said that it is necessary to stop all the publicity immediately, as Suryavanshi is still very young.
At only 15 years old, he could feel the pressure due to the publicity and all the expectations. And if the pressure harms his natural batting style he can hit back. Kapil Dev agreed that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a rare kind of talent, which needs to be protected and nurtured by keeping it away from outside noise.
Don’t promote Vaibhav Suryavanshi so much: Kapil Dev
Kapil Dev does not want to make any hasty predictions on Vaibhav’s career as the batsman still has a long way to go.
“Vaibhav is one of the best talents in the world. Don’t hype him so much and don’t put too much pressure on him. At this young age, you don’t even know what is right or wrong. He is as talented as Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli, but in T20,” the former captain said during a podcast on SportsTalk.
Some former cricketers and cricket experts said that the team management should hand Vaibhav his first cap as soon as possible considering his recent past with India A and before that with Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026 season.
Kapil Dev wants to see more from Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Before giving any further opinion on the budding batsman’s career, the 67-year-old said that the young batsman will have to prove his worth first to reach the pinnacle of his career. Test cricket can play a decisive role in the career of the Bihar-born batsman as this format will best test the nerves, mentality and skill set of the aggressive opening batsman.
Kapil Dev said in the podcast, “If he is ready, he should play because sometimes we think this is the peak of a batsman, so why delay everything? He has to prove his ability in Test cricket as well; he is a brilliant T20 batsman, we all know that. There will be tough times too, but it will be great to see how this talented young kid handles all these situations in his career.”

Final decision on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut match
Should the team management name Vaibhav in the England squad against England? In reply, Kapil Dev mentioned the debut of Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar made his debut in Team India at the age of only 16. When he joined the team and then went on to play in the middle, there were some doubts.
The former captain’s suggestion to the team management is to measure the batsman’s talent and not his age. If he is ready to play then the team can think about his debut.
